Halkidiki is located south east of the city of Thessaloniki (Greece's second largest city) set over three peninsulas (Kassandra, Sithonia, Athos). With its golden sandy beaches, turquoise seas, pine-clad hills and traditional villages it is known as the paradise of Greece

Halkidiki was inhabited approximately 700,000 years ago, as revealed by a skull which was found in the Caves of Petralona. The name Halkidiki comes from Chalkis whose inhabitants colonized Halkidiki in the 7th and 8th Century BC, it has also been part of the Roman Empire, Byzantine and Venetian rulers and under Turkish occupation. Halkidiki became part of Greece in 1912.
